Narrative Statement
Each of these original designs are handmade by Richard Davidson in North Carolina.
All chimes are made of brass, copper, bronze and stainless steel, and designed for use indoors or out. They will age gracefully into rich, dark colors, and patina with time. Wind catchers are white polycarbonate or brass, depending on the design.
Chime tubes are all solid brass and inter-related to one another in various tuning relationships. The sound is light, crisp, and melodious, and will carry well within a limited area. Tuned to the Aeolian scale.
Each is a mobile, and a pleasure to watch as they respond to shifting wind currents.
Each set is carefully boxed, with complete directions and diagrams for easy assembly.
The Frank Chime is a compact 29" from top to bottom and a full swing diameter of 6". This chime moves back and forth and hit against the walls of the rectangular clapper.
The Aeolian Chime is 36" from top to bottom, with a 36" full swing diameter. This mobile chime will appear to be in constant motion. Tuned to the Aeolian Scale.
The Doric Chime is 32" from top to bottom, with a 36" full swing diameter. A simpler version tuned to the Doric Scale.
The Zephyr has 4 pairs of chimes, 2 pairs comprising one tier of this 2 tiered chime.
